Construction IT runs in two places at once: the office and the jobsite. IT support for a construction company has to keep project, estimating and accounting software working at head office, get reliable connectivity and current drawings to crews in the field, and manage a fleet of laptops, tablets and phones that live in trucks and trailers. Scandifix does this for builders and trades in Edmonton.
What construction companies need from their IT
- Jobsite connectivity — internet at site trailers and temporary offices, with cellular failover
- Current information in the field — the right drawing revision, RFIs and daily reports on a phone or tablet
- Project and estimating software that is available and backed up
- Mobile device management — because devices get lost, dropped and stolen on site
Jobsite connectivity
- Temporary site internet — fixed wireless, business cellular or a starter circuit, sized for the crew and the software
- Cellular failover so a cut line does not stop the site
- A secure connection back to head office systems for site staff
- Ruggedised or well-cased tablets and phones for field use
We design and support this as part of our network setup and remote work support services.
The systems we support
- Project management — Procore, Buildertrend, Autodesk Construction Cloud, PlanGrid, Fieldwire
- Plans and markup — Bluebeam Revu, PDF workflows, drawing version control
- Estimating and job costing — Sage 300 CRE, Jonas, Buildxact and similar
- Accounting and payroll, plus Microsoft 365 for email, files and Teams
Document and plan management
The wrong drawing revision costs real money. We set up a structure where the current set is obvious, superseded plans are archived not deleted, and large files sync efficiently to the field. Mapped drives and cloud folders are configured so crews are not guessing — see our guide to network drives and file sharing.
Security for a mobile workforce
- Multi-factor authentication and full-disk encryption on every laptop, tablet and phone
- Remote lock and wipe for lost or stolen devices
- Controlled access for subcontractors and short-term site staff, removed when the job ends
- A monitored firewall at head office and endpoint protection everywhere
Backup and continuity
Project files, estimates and accounting data get 3-2-1 backups with an immutable copy and tested restores. If head office IT goes down, site work keeps moving and we agree how quickly the office is back.
Common IT problems we fix
- No usable internet at a new site trailer
- Field staff on the wrong drawing revision
- Project software slow or not syncing
- A superintendent’s tablet lost on site with company data on it
- New crew or project needs devices and access set up fast

Frequently asked questions
Can you get internet to a remote jobsite?
Usually, using fixed wireless or business cellular with failover. We size it to the number of users and the software in use, and set it up so it is secure, not an open network.
How do we stop crews using outdated drawings?
A clear document structure plus a project platform where the current set is the default view and old revisions are archived. We configure the sync so the field always has the latest without huge downloads.
What happens if a site laptop or tablet is stolen?
With encryption and mobile device management in place, we remotely lock or wipe it, and the data is unreadable without the credentials. Access from that device is cut immediately.
How is IT support priced?
A flat monthly fee based on office staff, field devices and servers, covering helpdesk, monitoring, security and backups. Site setups are quoted per project. See our managed IT services page.
